The U-shaped sections of the protecting cover (1) fits over the machine tool guide. One end section of the cover is connected to the stationary machine tool guide (2) while the other end is attached to the moving tool slide (3). The end covers are connected by means of hinges (4) to the machine. The individual telescopic sections (5) slide inside one another on swallow tail shaped guides (6, 7). The hinge on the moving part is located at a higher level than the hinge on the stationary part, so that when the slide is in one end position, the top faces of the U sections will be hinged over to the vertical position. The maximum end position, is therefore only determined by the thickness of the covers.
