1492199 Cutting rolls of material JUDELSHON INDUSTRIES Inc 22 Sept 1975 [2 Oct 1974] 38748/75 Heading B4B A slitting machine for cutting rolls R of sheet material, e.g. paper, plastics or textiles comprises a turret assembly 66 including shafts 90, 92, 94, 96 for supporting the rolls of material and rotatable about an axle 68 to bring one pair of shafts into a cutting position while simultaneously moving the other pair into a loading and unloading position, chuck means 90A, 92A, 94A, 96A for engaging the rolls when mounted on the shafts, and a cutting device mounted on a carriage 44 movable in directions both parallel to the shafts and at right angles thereto. The turret includes a pair of plates 78, 80 mounting bearings 86, 88 for the shafts and for drive shafts 130, 138. The chucks which are pneumaticallyactuated are mounted for rotation about the shafts, the pair of chucks 90A, 92A being driven by the shaft 138 via belts 140, 144 and the pair 94A, 96A by the shaft 130 via belts 132, 136. The drive shafts 130, 138 are provided with coupling members 126 and 128 respectively adapted to respectively engage a coupling 124 of a drive motor 116 depending upon which pair of shafts are in the cutting position; the turret is located in one or other position by means of a ram 114 actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 108 and is rotated between its two positions by a motor-and-belt drive (72, 74), Fig. 3 (not shown). The free ends of the roll shafts are supported when in the cutting position by means of rollers (170), Fig. 5 (not shown) mounted on a bracket (172) which is raised and lowered by a pneumatic ram 164 to bring the rollers into or out of engagement with the ends of the shafts. The shafts are located in their correct angular position by means of spring- loaded pins (184) engaging in holes in the shafts. The carriage 44 is driven in the longitudinal direction by a motor 40 and lead screw 36 and in the transverse direction by a pneumatic ram 52. |
