1492200 Foamed carbodiimide and isocyanurate polymers BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 29 Sept 1975 [30 Dec 1974] 39819/75 Headings C3C and C3R Foamed polymers having carbodiimide and isocyanurate linkages are made by condensing an organic polyisocyanate in the presence of a catalytically sufficient amount of a catalyst comprising (a) a s-triazine compound which is 2,4,6 - tris(dialkanolamino) - s - triazine where the alkanol is ethanol, isopropanol or butanol, 2,4,6 - tris(N - methylethanolamino) - s - triazine or an unsymmetrically substituted triazine of formula where R is H or C 1-10 alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> is CR 2 CR 2 OH or C 1-12 alkyl and X is NR 2 , C 1-12 alkoxy, phenoxy, C 1-12 alkyl, phenyl, OH, halogen, aziridyl, pyrrolidyl, piperidyl or N-alkylpiperazyl, (b) a 1,3,5 - tris(N,N - dialkylaminoalkyl) - shexahydrotriazine or an alkylene oxide or water adduct thereof and (c) phenol or a substituted phenol. The condensation may be carried out in the presence of a fluorocarbon blowing agent, tris-(2-chloroethyl)phosphate and a polyol, e.g. the reaction product of propylene oxide with the Mannich condensation product of formaldehyde, phenol and diethanolamine.
