1492301 Marking metal by spraying metal through a stencil HILTI AG 8 Jan 1976 [19 Feb 1975] 6953/75 HeadingC7F [Also in Division B6] Molten metal is sprayed through a stencil defining an alphanumeric symbol on to a metal substrate to be marked, a release compound being applied periodically to the stencil during use. The stencil is preferably cleaned periodically to remove sprayed metal. The release compound may be applied by spraying a solution or suspension on to the stencil such that a film is left after the liquid has evaporated; there may be used engineers' marking fluid, felt-tipped marker fluid, or shoe polish. Apparatus for the process includes stencil rings 11, metal spray gun 13, release compound spray gun 15 and rotary brush 16; rings 11 rotate to give different alphanumeric sequences, and all of 13, 15 and 16 are reciprocable relative to rings 11; on an outward stroke, gun 13 sprays metal, e.g. Al, through stencil 11 to mark metal 14, and on a return stroke brush 16 removes excess metal from 11, assisted by air jet 18, then spray 15 recoats 11 with release compound. |
