The envelope has one panel formed by a number of overlapping folded flaps (1, 2, 3) of which one flap (3) forms the final closure flap. A tear wire (7) is provided on the inner wall of the envelope along a fold (5) of at least one of the flaps (3) and has an outwardly projecting grip end (8). The wire may be glued into the fold and the grip end may be formed as a loop. The wire may be a double length of which one end forms the loop. It may be arranged in the fold (5) of the closure flap (3). The end (8) may be removably glued to the outside of the panel.
