1343616 Purifying blood ROHM & HAAS CO 19 April 1971 [9 April 1970] 25988/71 Heading C3H A method of removing a poison and/or drug which is/are at least partially soluble in aqueous and organic mediums, from blood comprises contacting the blood with particles of a substantially non-ionogenic macroreticular crosslinked synthetic resin having a porosity of at least 10% and a specific surface area of at least 10 sq. m./g.so that the poiston and/or drug is/are adsorbed on the resin. The resin is preferably not swollen by the blood. The blood may be passed through a bed of the resin. The resins may be prepared from poly(vinyl) benzenes with or without other monomers with one or more double bonds (many examples given). In the example the resin is prepared from divinylbenzene, ethylvinylbenzene and styrene. The process may be used to remove barbital, phenobarbital, sodium phenobarbital, amobarbital, pentobarbital, butabarbital, secobarbital, cyclobarbital, sodium pentothal and glutethimide.
|
