PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To capture images for generating a high-quality stereoscopic image with uniform image quality in left/right images.SOLUTION: An image pickup apparatus comprises a mirror, an image pickup device, and another image pickup device. The mirror separates incident light into a first component and a second component. The image pickup device forms an image of the first component and obtains a first image signal to use to generate a parallax detection image. The other image pickup device forms an image of the second component and obtains a second image signal to use to generate a basic image with higher image quality than the parallax detection image.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
