PURPOSE:To preclude the malfunction of automatic focus adjustment due to a random noise by moving a focus lens only when a specific number of direction data indicating the same direction continue. CONSTITUTION:This automatic focus adjusting device is provided with a means 13 which generate a control signal for determining a direction corresponding to the direction data as the moving direction of the focus lens in an out-of-focus state and inhibits the control signal from being generated for a period from the point of time of transition from the focusing state to a defocusing state to the point of time when a specific number of direction data indicating the same direction is supplied. The direction indicated by the direction data when a specific number of the direction data indicating the same direction continue is decided as the moving direction of the focus lens. Namely, even if false direction data is generated, the focus lens is inhibited from moving unless the direction data indicating the same direction are generated. Consequently, the malfunction due to an external random noise is precluded. |
