Antimony iodide discharge lamps - for deactivating microorganisms

Metal halide discharge lamps emitting microorganism-deactivating radiation contain Sb as the metal and iodine as the halogen. The lamps can be used to disinfect enclosed spaces or water streams. The lamps emit 40% of their total output power in the 200-315 nm range, with max. emission in the microorganism-deactivating range of 260-280 nm and only 6% in the microorganism-reactivating range of 400-450 nm. They are superior in this respect to high-pressure Hg lamps and are more compact and less temp. -sensitive than low-pressure Hg lamps.
