Borehole probe monitoring and control network - uses module feeding radiation detector and temp. transducer digital outputs to computer and interpreting incoming digital commands

The electronic network controls the operation and monitors the output of a borehole exploration probe, which monitors gamma or neutron radiation and which has a digital link to a control centre. A probe (3) comprising a radiation detector (9) and an electronic processing module (10) is lowered into a borehole (1) with a cable (4) attached to a control network (6) and computer (7). These monitor the probe output and issue commands to the probe, such as measurement, start, stop, null set, and in addition monitor other features such as probe depth and temp. The module (10) converts the output of a radiation detector (20) and temp. transducer (33) to a suitable digital form and interprets corresp. incoming digital commands.
