An operating theatre (1) has a false ceiling (2) which has inlet registers (4) through which conditioned air is introduced from a supply system (24) in the ceiling void. Extract is from grilles (5) near the bottom of the walls. The operating table lights (8) are supported on adjustable linkages (7) from a vertical tube (6) suspended frrm the ceiling. This tube has an internal duct (9) which is fed from the air conditioning suply system. A hollow adjustable linkage (11) takes the air from the duct to a diffuser head (12). The diffuser is positioned over the patient to provide a laminar horizontal flow of air which creates an air curtain over the open wound. This reduces the number of air changes required for the room as a whole.
