摘要 <p>Liquid fuel is processed by atomising it to a mixt. with a carrier gas (exhaust gases with air added). The mixts. is compressed by a piston compressor and passed near the end of the stroke through a catalyst into the intake manifold of the engine. This injection is timed to take place during the last 20-40% of the opening time of the inlet valve which has drawn in a surplus of combustion air. An auxiliary piston runs at half the speed of the main piston in the cylinder. On its down stroke, it draws in a mixture of atomised fuel and of a carrier gas through a hole in its cylinder wall. At the top of the stroke, a hole in the piston coincides with one in the wall and the mixture, compressed to a high pressure, is injected through the catalyst into the inlet manifold. The suction valve is open through 240 degrees but for the first 60% of its openings time it draws in air; fuel injection is timed for the least 20-40% to ensure ready ignitition of the mixture by the spark plug. The piston head design ensures good ignition in spite of the high excess air ratio. The exhaust gases from the engine contain an extremely low percentage or toxic constituents because of the complete combustion.</p>
