<p>The engine consists of a turbine (2) which rotates at high speed to produce a flow of air over aerofoil (3, 4), placed with the turbine in a contoured jet pipe (1). Above the aerofoil is a converging opening (5) from the jet pipe and below the aerofoils is a diverging opening (6) from the jet pipe, these openings enhancing the drop in pressure across the aerofoils and consisting of movable shutters (7, 9) operated by, for example, hydraulic jacks (8, 10). The configuration of the jet pipe and the power of the turbine is chosen so that the mean speed, v, of the air sweeping the aerofoils satisfies the relationship KZSV2/ 16>/P where kz is a coefficient depending on the aerofoil, S is the plan surface area of the aerofoil and P is the total weight of the object and engine.</p> |
