The plastic bottle crate has a lid (10) fitting on the frame (4) at the crate mouth, with a spigot (11) fitting positively inside the frame. The underside of the lid, enclosed by the spigot, is level with the lid supporting edge (12) bearing against the top of the frame, and above this edge a stacking frame (13) extends, directly above the crate mouth frame. On the top of the lid is a support (14) coaxial to each bottle compartment (6), its height being at least equal to the depth of annular stacking protrusions (8) on the bottom of the crate. The lid stacking frame (13) can be of trough section, the trough being open to the underside.
