The conveyor transports goods in both vertical and horizontal directions, being partic. for use inside a building. It has lift cages (3) working in vertical shafts (1), and each equipped with a loading and unloading mechanism. This comprises a non-kinking roller chain (11), actuated by a drive travelling with it, under the cage floor (3, 1), and engaging with a lug (9) on a transport truck (8), working in a guide (10). The mechanism extends from and retracts into the cage. The shafts are intersected by horizontal passages (4) on the various floors, equipped with conveyor mechanisms. A lifting device is provided on each truck, by means of which these mechanisms are loaded and unloaded when the truck is thrust out of the cage. Movement of the cage is controlled so as to halt it at the desired floor, in order to receive or discharge the goods transported.
