<p>A device for damping down the press. produced when steam discharges from a pressurised chamber operates by discharging the steam in a submerged pipe considerably below the surface of a water tank, thus causing it to condense. The bottom-open end of the steam discharge pipe terminates at some distance above the base of the tank; centrally located on the base of the tank, beneath this bottom open end of the pipe, a trumpet-shaped solid object projects with its tapered, upper end at least as far as the open end of the pipe or some way into it. Pref. the upper end of the trumpet-shaped block has guide elements to centre it radially within the pipe. Used partic. in a pressurised water reactor, for example in the case of a burst duct. The arrangement provides a relatively economical appts. for reducing the oscillations and press. surges resulting from the blowdown of steam, thus enabling the water-contg. tank to be economically designed.</p> |
