Gutter for tapping blast furnaces - where metal flows through row of prefabricated refractory pipes located in safety gutter

Channel for tapping metallurgical furnaces, esp. blast furnaces, uses a trough-shaped gutter employed for the assembly of a row of pipes; the end of one pipe enters a mating recess in the next pipe. Each pipe is provided with a flat zone, pref. on a flange, so the pipes rest on the bottom inside surface of the gutter. The bore of the pipes is pref. eccentric so a thick wall exists at the underside of the pipe, the molten metal flowing thorugh the bore of the pipes. The axis of the pipe bores is pref. at the same height as the top edges of the gutter. All or part of the pipes may rest on the bottom inside surface of the gutter. The molten metal flows through a pipe so that accidents are prevented and environmental pollution avoided. The pipe is assembled from a row of prefabricated elements which are easily assembled and form air cooling channels between the pipe and the gutter.
