Two opposite side walls (3A, 3B) of the transport box, which is open at the top, have in their centre, at a width (Z) which is equal to a multiple of the box height, an outwardly directed projection (3A) which increases the inside width (X) of the box at this point to a length (Y), measured on the outside, of the other side walls (2). For the space-saving transport of empty boxes, a plurality of boxes (II, III, IV, V) can thus be inserted upright into a box (I) lying on the ground and a further box (VI) can be placed inverted on top of the upright boxes (II, III, IV, V). Furthermore, two corners of the box are bevelled (2A) and corner strips (5) protruding upwards are arranged here lying on the inside, with the result that outside the bevels (2A) the other corner strips (4) which protrude upwards and belong to a second box have room if two empty boxes (II and III or IV and V) are stacked with open top sides facing each other. <IMAGE>
