Stopper rod setting carriage - for foundry converters has jib with pivot on cross slide and power actuation

A mechanised setting appliance for stopper rods of converters in the foundry industry consits of a carrier frame on a wheeled chassis. A jib which holds at its free and the stopper rod can be raised and lowered by a power ram. It is attached to a slide with a freedom of movement in two perpendicular directions so that the free end of the jib can be moved to suit the converter tap hole position. The chassis is guided by pairs of guide rollers which run along the web of a central guide rail on the floor. When a stop has been contacted by a front bar, the brakes are applied to the wheels. This appliance can be operated entirely independent of the converter charging machine. It is extremely versalitle and can be installed without trouble in any converter bay.
