The lifting platform is particularly for motor vehicles, having a number of supporting arms slewing on vertical axes on a gantry to suit the dimensions of the load. A clamp acts between each arm and the gantry, automatically preventing slewing in any position inadvertently. The pivot points (3) of the arms (1) are freewheel couplings, having a cylindrical first coupling half (31) coupled to the gantry (2) so that it cannot turn. This is automatically thrust downwards in the axial direction on lifting the gantry. Clamping bodies (4) are accommodated loose in grooves (5) in its cylindrical surface, and the second coupling half (32), turning with the respective arm, clamps against them.
