The system utilises stored potential energy when lowering items by an electrohydraulic hoist driven by an accumulator. The pressure generated by lowering the item is used to supply the hydraulic portion of the hoist, the oil under pressure driving a hydraulic motor coupled to a dynamo. This is coupled to the accumulator, the effect being a temporary recharging of the accumulator whenever a load is lowered. Both the electric and the hydraulic portion of the hoist mechanism can be used when lowering, the hydraulic portion acting as a motor driving the electric motor which functions as a dynamo.
