The bed is particularly for use in hospitals, having a frame with horizontal members, on which a support is mounted for the mattress. The support has a head (4) and a foot (5) section, each hinging on transverse axes (2, 3) close together on the frame (1). Between each hinging section and the frame is a ram (6, 7) supplied from an external pressure source and adjusting it for angle in relation to the frame and independently of the other section. There can be a third section (8) between the other two, folding away when not wanted, about one of the hinge axes.
