1491147 Sheetforming SVENSKA TEXTILFORSKNINGSINSTITUTET 27 Jan 1975 [14 Feb 1974] 3427/75 Heading B5A A process for moulding an article in a textile material, e.g. a synthetic material or wool, comprises preheating the material to the glass transition temperature, moulding the material by sudden deformation by stretching without allowing the material to cool, and maintaining the deformation during a post-heating period at the same or a higher temperature. In an emboiment the material is clamped over a mould cavity in a heated chamber 1 having hot air or steam connections 13, 15, by a ring 19 and projections 21, and a tool 27 with connections 29, 31 for a heating fluid, which may have an antifriction coating 65, is lowered to stretch the material. Tool 27 is lowered by gravity. A counterbalance arrangement 49 allows the weight of the tool to be compensated. An adjustable electromagnetic stop 63 can be retracted from below a plate 39 to allow the tool to move downwardly. The tool can be lifted by an hydraulic jack 53. Post-heating is carried out by blowing heating fluid into the chamber 1. Subsequently the tool 27 is lifted and ambient air is drawn through a connection 17 to cool the material. During moulding heating fluid can be exhausted through openings 25 in the ring 19. The tool 27 can be actuated solely by an hydraulic jack. Support rails can be arranged in the mould cavity corresponding to recesses in the moulded article. |
