1491541 Multiple link hinges with spring latching R HEINZE [trading as RICHARD HEINZE] 7 Jan 1975 [16 Jan 1974 6 Feb 1974 2 April 1974] 530/75 Heading E2F In a hinge in which two mountings 8, 12 are connected by a linkage comprising arms 1, 2 cross-jointed at 4 and pivoted to the mountings at 7 and 5, a lever 10 pivoted to arm I and mounting 12 at 6 and 20, and a link 24 pivoted to arm 2 and mounting 8 at 3 and 25 (alternatively arm 2 can engage in sliding guide means in mounting 8), a compression spring device acts between the mounting 12 and lever 10 in an over-centre position of the lever to latch the hinge in its closed position. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 a curved metal leaf spring 30 is pivoted to lever 10 at 29 and cam slide in a slot 28 in the mounting-in a closed position of the hinge this spring slides to the right hand end of the slot and is put under compression then acts to urge the lever 10 in a clockwise direction once pivot 29 has passed over dead-centre line TL. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 9, 10 a spring urged pin 27 can slide in slots 124, 125 in the lever 10 while acting from a support 126 pivoted to mounting 12 at 128. This also is designed to act to latch the lever 10 closed when in an over-centre position. The embodiment shown in Fig. 15a employs a resilient plastics member 225 which has elongated slots engaged by the pivot pin 6 and a pin 226 on the mounting 12. Various forms of member 225 are disclosed (Figs. 17, 18 not shown). Other embodiments are disclosed in which a compression spring or elastic rubber urged member is pivoted to lever 10 and can slide on a pivot pin on either the arm 1 or the mounting 12 (Figs. 4, 5 not shown); in which a spring urged roller either acts from a support pivoted to the mounting onto a cam surface on the lever 10 (Fig. 6 not shown), or acts from a support pivoted to the lever 10 onto a cam surface secured to the mounting (Figs. 7 and 8 not shown). In all the embodiments the line of action of the spring passes over a dead centre line near the closed position of the hinge and can act on the lever 10 to oppose any opening movement of the linkage. Mounting 8 is a recessed mounting designed to be secured to a movable member 9 and mounting 12 is a bracket slidably adjustable on a mounting plate 18 designed to be screwed to a fixed member 11. |
