1491406 Earth-moving, bowl type scrapers CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 15 June 1976 [3 Nov 1975] 24731/76 Heading E1F An auger assembly for an earth-moving bowl type scraper comprises a supporting bearing assembly which includes a lower housing fixable to the bottom of a scraper bowl, thrust and lateral bearing means in the lower housing, an upper housing rotatably supported in the bearing means and closing the upper end of the bearing assembly, and an annular lubricant sealing means between the housings; an auger having a shaft connected at the lower end by a rotation-transmitting male and female connection with the upper housing of the bearing assembly; and a hydraulically powered motor which is arranged for mounting at the top of the bowl and has an output shaft that makes a rotation -transmitting male and female connection with upper end of the shaft of the auger. Preferably a limited amount of lateral and end play exists between the auger shaft and the upper housing of the supporting bearing assembly and also the output shaft of the motor. The male and female connections are essentially square in cross-section and are constructed as shown. The upper and lower housing of the bearing assembly have opposed peripheral flanges and an annular sealing means operatively associated with the flanges the sealing means including a metal to metal seal between the flanges and a labyrinth seal at the outer periphery of the flanges.
