The mechanism for topping up with liquid, containers filled with gherkins, onions etc. comprises transport disc for carrying the containers along a pre-determined path below the disc with provision for returning the overspill to the filling trough. The rotatable transport disc is arranged within the circumference of the overspill trough. The filling trough has orifices arranged in a circular patter. The overspill trough wall may be provided with entry and exit openings for the containers separated by a guide with a rotatable transport disc on either side.
