A method of removing the ballast from a practice torpedo enables it to be lightened so that it will float after completion of firing practice. The casing (9) of the torpedo carries a set of weights in the form of segments (5) integral with the casing. All the segments have pockets through their abutting edges and an abutting pair of pockets (8) forms a chamber for a spring (10). When a strap around the ring is broken e.g. pneumatically or by explosion, the springs force the segments (4) apart so that they are ejected. The pockets in the fixed segments and one from each pair of pockets in the free segments are shallower than the remainder of the pockets.
|
