The device serves for inserting and removing curtain support elements by hand or by means of an auxiliary rail in and out of an opening in the running surface of a curtain rail which is C-shaped in cross-section. The opening (7) can be closed by means of a removable insert piece (10). The curtain support elements in the groove (5) of the rail (1) project from a slot (6) formed between the bends (4) of the C-shape. The insert piece (10) has a region (11) of C-shaped cross-section which is shorter than the opening (7) and has at one end a continuation (15) which can be inserted in the groove (5) below its bends (4) and, at the other end, two tongues (19) which continue the bends (14) of the C-shaped region (11) and can be pushed below the bends (4). The length of the C-shaped region (11) and the tongues (19) is greater than the length of the opening (7). The device serves as a chamber for the insertion of curtain support elements in the curtain rail. Due to the displaceable tongues (19), the chamber is automatically closed after the introduction of the curtain support elements so that the curtain support elements can slide over the chamber and can be moved freely in the groove of the curtain rail. <IMAGE>
