<p>The vehicle safety belt is automatically released after an accident, a ball (44) being dislodged by the shock and releasing oil (49) from a cylinder (48). A spring loaded plunger (50, 60) decends and operates the catch after a time delay. The ball is held against the cylinder orifice by a weight (38) on a spring (40). The plunger has a pin (54) each side, holding a pair of pivoting bell crank levers (56, 58). The other ends of these levers contact similar pins (30) on the buckle release rod. The spring action slides this rod (22) in its housing (16) and an inclined plane forces the belt buckle (14) out of its seating (20).</p> |
