摘要 <p>Sheet materials out from tubular stock are made by lay-up of a mixt. of fibrous granules and a binder resin with partial flattening of the granules by axial or radial compression prior to hardening the binder. The mixt. of resin and granules may be laid up in successive layers either within a cylindrical mould, suitable for applying axial compression, or round a mandrel, suitable for applying radial compression. Suitable for mfr. of thick or thin sheet, esp. alternatives to asbestos paper as an acoustic barrier beneath floor tiles or where a high specific stiffness (stiffness/wt. ratio) is required. Natural granules maintain multiaxial fibre orientation internally and an intrinsic flexibility and elasticity better than sheets fabricated from individual chopped fibres. Uniform distribution of low binder resin conons, is more readily attained. The direction and degree of anisotropic stiffness is more readily reproduced and controlled by the direction and degree of compression of the original granules.</p>
