The hand tool is for fixing a cover on an aluminium food can. It has fixed (1, 2) and movable interhinging arms with the latter pivoted by hand to press onto the fixed arm. The externally step-lipped rims of a can-wall piece are folded over to contain the cover piece. The tool has a cupped (1) base which extends horizontally to support the axle (3) to the movable arm. The cup contains interfitting die cups (6) which conform to the external geometry of can wall pieces. The function zone (4) of the fixed arm has a step (7, 8) walled recess or matrix which fits over the external stepped edges of the dies.
