Appts. for preparing compacted food-stuffs - by extrusion through grid and cutting of strand into sections

Appts. for prepn. of compacted foodstuffs from raw food materials is partic. applicable to prepn. of instantaneous potato croquettes. It comprises a hopper-head, a mixing chamber, a fixed grid, a movable knife underneath the grid and a driving motor. In mfr. of potato croquettes, a mixt. of powdered potatoes, starch, vegetable fats, milk, yeast, salt, spices, an emulsifier and water is introduced into the hopper. It is worked and mixed by the archimedean screw which pushes it towards the grid through which it is extruded, forming a strand which is cut into sections by the blade; these fall by gravity, e.g. directly into hot oil so as to produce the croquettes. Appts. is simple and low in cost. The prods, are constant in consistency and homogeneity; the operating costs are low.
