Filled container closing in packaging machine - permanently stretches band between positioning markings to set distance equal to or greater than movement of machine

The procedure closes filled containers in an intermittently working packing machine with a band shaped material intermittently moving above the containers. The band material is provided with impressions and positioning markings and before closing the container the intermittent advancing movement of the band's markings is brought into line with the intermittent movement of the packing machine. The impressions in the band material are brought in a correct position over the container. The band material (9) consists of paper coated with one or more layers of plastic or aluminum foil and is subjected to a physical treatment to make it elastic. The distance between positioning markings (11) of the band material (9) is smaller than the length of the advancing movement of the machine. In order to make the distance between the positioning markings (11) equal or greater than the advancing movement of the machine the band material is permanently stretched above its elastic limit.
