<p>The seal between the bed of a mixing vessel and the bottom surface of its vertical rotor is improved by exerting a constant pressure on a graphite packing ring; and the pressure is automatically adjusted. In the pref. device, the top surface of the vertical shaft driving the rotor has a threaded hole for a clamping bolt; an inverted cup with an axial hole is mounted on the bolt; and the cup contains a calibrated compression spring. The bolt clamps the rotor on the drive shaft via the spring-loaded cup; and the outer surface of the cup is conical, blending into the top surface of the rotor to avoid material deposits and thus avoid manual cleaning after each mixing operation. Used for all mixing operations, but esp. mixing foundry core- and moulding- sands. Prevents the constituents of the mixt., e.g. sand, from reaching the mechanical components in the redn. gears used to drive the rotor.</p> |
