1423416 Heat insulating beams KITSONS BYALEX LTD 13 June 1974 [4 July 1973] 31880/73 Heading E1W A beam 1 comprises an elongate inverted undercut channel 2 the lips 6, 7 of which provide flanges supporting spacers 8, 9 of high compressive strength heat insulating material upon which are supported in turn channel shaped hangers 13. The hangers have one side flange 12 resting on the respective spacer 8, 9 and the other side flange 14 of which forming or being secured to a further member providing a laterally projecting flange 23, 24 at each respective side of the beam. The composite parts form a hollow which contains heat insulating material 15, 16. The channels may be formed of metal or glass fibre reinforced plastics and the insulating material 15, 16 may be prefabricated blocks or in situ formed foam. Gaps 25 ensure that no heat bridge is formed across the beam which may be used to support suspended ceiling panels of a cold storage chamber. The various components may be bonded by a vapor sealing medium during assembly. Beams may be joined end to end by fish plates engaging in slots in the ends of the beams. |
