Multiple plug for telephone distribution frames - is used for 2 wire line connections and also wire and overvoltage protector testing

The multiple distribution plug, for a telephone exchange's distribution frame, can not only be used for connections to two-wire lines but also for testing the lines and for testing overvoltage protectors (after disconnection). All these functions are performed from the front of the frame. The plug consists of a main housing (1) containing the over voltage protectors (20, 21) and a second housing (2) with tags (35) for wire connections (via tension relief posts (37). The main housing has three looped-tape contacts (7-9) at its plug-in end and two spring finger contacts (29, 30) at its other end. These latter contacts engage contacts (31, 32) in the second housing.
