1475798 Polymeric detergent builders RHONE-PROGIL 12 July 1974 [13 July 1973] 31020/74 Addition to 1418975 Heading C5D [Also in Division C3] A detergent composition comprises a surfaceactive agent and water-soluble polyester which has been sulphonated at the unsaturated aliphatic chains, the polyester being either the polycondensation product of (a) an aromatic diacid anhydride or diester, (b) an unsaturated aliphatic diacid, anhydride or diester and (c) a saturated glycol, which product has been sulphonated, or the polycondensation product of (a) an aromatic diacid anhydride or diester, (b<SP>1</SP>) an unsaturated aliphatic diacid diester which has been sulphonated and (c) a saturated glycol. The composition may also include an inorganic detergent builder, a whitener, an anti-redeposition agent, perfume, an optical brightening agent or an inert filler. The polyesters used in the examples are derived from (a) isophthalic acid, dimethyl sulphosuccinate and diethylene glycol, and the terminal carboxyl groups of the resulting polyester may be esterified with an oxyethylenated C 12 fatty alcohol, and (b) dimethyl isophthalate dimethyl maleate and di- or triethylene glycol the resulting polyester being sulphonated with sodium metabisulphite. The surface-active agents used in the examples are (i) sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate and (ii) an oxyethylenated C 12 fatty alcohol. The composition may also include a perfume, an optical brightener, sodium silicate, sodium perborate, sodium sulphate, and carboxymethyl cellulose. |
