<p>A compression ignition engine has two opposed pistons acting in each cylinder. The pistons are connected to a crankshaft via a rocker beam, and the fulcrum of the rocker beam is at one of its ends so that when the piston is at inner dead center, the little end of the crankshaft/rocker beam connecting rod is at its closest position to the crankshaft axis. The position of the fulcrum is also adjustable, while the pistons are in motion, to alter the engine's compression ratio.</p> |
