<p>The turret of the numerically controlled lathe holds several cutting tools. It is positioned on the carriage by means of a spindle fixed at the top. The lower portion of the spindle has a threaded end engaging a nut in the carriage. This nut is rotated by a motor, through gearing. Since the turret cannot rotate, it must rise. At the upper limit, it is free of the lock and rotates until sensors detect its new position. The motor reverses and the turret descends and is locked. Spring loaded levers and a solenoid lock the assembly and prevent rotation.</p> |
