The microscalping apparatus has a swivelling device for setting the microscalper (4) or microscalpers obliquely. This oblique setting results in an increase in output per scalper as compared with orientation at right angles. A control device (26) which is in operative connection with the various parts of the apparatus is provided, allowing controlled swivelling of the microscalper in the initial and final phase of machining. This control facility is intended to solve the problem arising in the said phases of the machining of a workpiece due to the eccentric loading of the obliquely set microscalper.
