The specification describes a liq. filter having a horizontal or vertical housing enclosing a central rotatable hollow shaft. A row of filter elements is mounted on the shaft. According to the novelty, the filter elements are in the form of squares with cut-off corners. Pocket shaped filter cloths are stretched over the elements. The filter cloths are firmly closed on three of the sides of the square and can be opened or closed on the third side. The arrangement combines the advantage of efficient cleaning associated with circular, rotated elements with that of efficient use of materials associated with square elements.
