[Also in Division A5] New compounds of the general formula and the salts thereof, where R is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 or R 1 is H or cis or trans-C 1-8 alkyl, R 2 is H, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 , X is OH, Cl, Br, or OCH 3 and P is -P(O)(OH) 2 , are prepared by fermentation in a Streptomyces fermentation medium of a compound of the above general formula where P represents H, followed if desired by the preparation of salts in conventional manner. The compounds have antibacterial properties.
