<p>Prod. of small sized reduction coke from (A) low-coking coal with more than 35% volatiles, or (B) mixts. of coking coal with >28% volatiles, and low- or non- coking carbonaceous material with high volatile content e.g. peat, brown coal, crushed brown coal briquettes or flame coal. Process compries milling until around 95% is below 3 mm., compressing in a stamping machine to density of >=0.9 t/m3 with water content 7-12% and coking. Used as a reducing agent in electro-metallurgical processeS, e.g. prepn. of Ca2C, P or ferrous alloys. The coke is of high electrical resistance and reactivity, with high strength. The coarse coke shows increased crack formation and breaks down into small sized coke or leaving the oven, so that further comminution is inhibited.</p> |
