Dis:azo pigments providing colouration with good fastness - used for paints, varnishes, inks, leather and textiles

New diazo pigments have formula (I) In (I) R is Me or Et X is H, cl or Me; A is residue of coupling component of acetoacetanylamide, pyrazolone, naphthol or beta-hydroxynaphthoic acid arylamide series, free from SO3H and contg. is not >1 COOH. Pref. pigments have (a) R=Me, X=H; (b) R=Et, X=H; (c) R=Et, X=Cl, (d) R=Et, X=Me. Pref. A is residue of (i) 1-acetoacetylaminobenzene or deriv. with 1-3 substs. on benzene ring; (ii) beta-naphthol, 4-chloro-1 -naphthol or 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid; or (iii) 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoylaminobenzene or deriv. with 1-3 substd. on benzene ring. The pigments have diverse uses, e.g. for colouration of paints, varnishes, polymerisates (esp. polyvinyl cpds. and polystyrene) and inks, for the printing of leather and textiles, and for the coloured finishing of leather. They give very vivid colorations of good fastness to the usual agencies.
