<p>The electronic monitoring equipment for use in intensive care units detects various characteristics of the patient's condition and activates a suitable display when a dangerous combination is either detected or predicted. The device monitors such parameters as blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, heart beat over suitable electric transducers, and converts their signals to digital encoded data by an A/D converter. In addition manually entered data are also monitored so that particular cases can be catered for. The signals derived are processed in an electronic unit and displayed in a suitable manner. The electronics is programmed to be able to ascertain whether particular combinations of input variables constitute a dangerous condition, even when several variables are involved and also by means of a simple extrapolation, to predict whether a dangerous condition is about to ensue.</p> |
