Thermoplastic resin made susceptible to surface oxidation - by addition of micronised rhyolite granules

Thermoplastic resins based on polyolefins, polystyrenes and poly(vinyl chlorides) have their properties improved by addn. of micronised rhyolite in the amt. of 1-7 (0.3-1.5) wt. % of the resin. The additive can be incorporated in the cold, in the factory before prodn. of the granules. The additive renders the resins susceptible to superficial oxidn., which improves their properties when applied in the plastics industry, e.g. in packages, sectional irons, pipers, etc. It obviates the need to use specialised equipment or treatments to achieve the favourable properties.
