<p>Novel p-alkoxyphenylazoxy-phenylester, are formula (I) or a mixt. of their isomarin ester. In (I) Z is -N(O)=N- or -N=N(O)-; R is 1-8C alkyl; R' is 1-8C haloalkyl or 1-8C alkenyl. Pref. R and R' are linear radicals and R' has a terminal halogen substit. suitable R gps are Me, Et, n-Propyl and n-butyl, pref. R' gps are 2-haloethyl, vinyl and allyl. Used as dielectric in electro-optical appts. e.g. in numerical display. (I) are useful in prodn. of stable smectic. phases and may be mixed with solutes e.g. chlorophyll and with other pigments. Rigid mesophases may also be obtd. by polymerisation.</p> |
