Device includes a drafting mechanism comprising a series of embossed rollers forming nips with presser rollers into which a fibre roving is fed via a funnel which traverses axially along the nips so that as the roving passes through the nips it is twisted into yarn. The twisted yarn passing from the last nip which is associated with a suction tube to remove waste fibre, passes over a sensor pref. a mechanical feeler which when the yarn breaks, actuates a stop-motion mechanism to (1) firstly move the funnel outside of its normal transverse path so that roving is no longer fed into the first nip; and (2) secondly the move the presser rolls so that pressure is no longer exerted on the partially twisted yarn. The spinning device is automatically stopped when yarn breakage occurs. Waste yarn does not entangle around the rollers.
