The apparatus consists of a hollow cylinder (1) equipped with a helicoidal screw (3), which has rounded edges so that the materials to be sampled are not damaged, and with a cone shaped tip (2). Inside the cylinder are two sets of twelve to eighteen spikes or forks (5) (6) which are attached by screw nuts (7) (8) to a spindle (13) running inside the shaft (4) attached to the cylinder. The spindle has two sets of screw threads (9, 10) of opposite hand such that when it is rotated the forks protrude outside the cylinder through holes (11, 12), disposed around the periphery of the cylinder, in order to grip a sample of material.
