The toothed belt (2) transmits the drive from the pulley (3) to the pulley (4). The jockey pulley (5) mounted on the bracket (7) maintains the correct belt tension. The spindle of the jockey pulley (5) is a close fit in a hole in the lever (6) and passes through a slot (11) in the bracket (7). The lever (6) is pressed towards the belt (2) by the spring (9) which is compressed by the screw (23). When the screw (23) has produced the correct belt tension, the spindle of the jockey pulley is locked in the slot (11) by a nut screwed on to the end of the spindle. To eliminate side loads on the jockey pulley (5) the centre lines of the pulley (5), the screw (23) and the pivot (8) all lie in the same vertical plane.
